Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is ASME?

ASME stands for American Society of Mechanical Engineers. It's a professional organization that focuses on student growth through hands-on projects, workshops, networking, competitions, and more.

Q: Who can join ASME at ASU?

Despite the name, you don't have to be a mechanical engineer to join! Our club is open to all ASU students who want to expand their skills, get involved, or meet new people.

Q: How do I join ASME?

Joining is as simple as it gets, with no formal application required. Just get connected! Join our Discord server to stay updated about meetings and events, and add ASME as a group on Sun Devil Central so you never miss important announcements.

Q: When and where does ASME meet?

We usually meet every two weeks, typically on Tuesdays or Thursdays. The exact meeting schedule for the Fall 2025 semester will be finalized soon and announced on our social media platforms. If you decide to participate in our additional activities, such as the conference competitions, meeting times will be set internally within your team.

Q: Is there any cost to join?

There is no mandatory fee to participate in our campus meetings and events. However, becoming an official national ASME member does require a small annual fee, which allows you access to extra benefits like scholarships, exclusive events, and career opportunities.

Q: What kind of activities does ASME at ASU offer?

We host technical workshops, bring in guest speakers, and organize networking nights. We also hold general body meetings, participate in ASU events, and compete in conference competitions such as IAM3D and the Student Design Competition.

Q: Do I need prior experience to join?

Not at all! We welcome members from all majors and skill levels. Our activities are designed to help you learn and grow no matter where you are starting from.
